Iyer Urban Design Studio is a leading practice of Planners, Urban Designers and Architects, specialising in Urban Design and Planning. The Practice, operating from two major centers in South Africa, and is involved in a wide range of urban development projects, at a range of scales, both locally and internationally.

A distinguishing feature of the practice is its ability to work across design scales and disciplines. Iyer has the unique ability to operate within the fields of planning, urban design, architecture and landscape design. This positions the practice to contribute at a policy and strategic level, whilst also being able to translate policy into real tangible development. This can is conveyed in the numerous detailed design and built projects.

The practice draws from the collaboration of a diverse range of skills and experience, and operates within a studio environment, promoting interaction creativity and innovation. Central to the approach of the practice is a belief in design as an agent for positive change, and a key influence in enhancing the livability of cities and regions.

The practice is committed to creating places of enduring quality and timelessness that engender a sense of place and meaning. The philosophy of the practice draws strongly on principles of Sustainability, Urbanism, and the valuable interrelationship between people and place.
